The Amohia Ake building, developed by Tainui Group Holdings (TGH) for ACC, is a state-of-the-art regional office designed to foster a healthier, more sustainable work environment. With 800 staff relocating to the 8,500-square-meter facility, this project symbolises innovation and cultural heritage, reflected in its name, which stems from a Waikato-Tainui tongikura:

“Amohia ake te ora o te iwi, ka puta ki te whei ao”

Designed by Warren and Mahoney and built by Hawkins, this landmark project upholds sustainability principles, including NABERSNZ energy efficiency standards, electric vehicle charging stations, and bicycle-friendly infrastructure.

Challenge: Sustainability and Efficiency

One of the key objectives for the Amohia Ake project was to integrate sustainable solutions that align with modern building performance benchmarks. The development prioritises:

• Energy efficiency, targeting a four-star NABERSNZ rating.
• Reducing environmental impact through eco-friendly technology.
• Encouraging sustainable commuting with 82 bicycle parking spaces and electric vehicle charging stations.
• Optimising water use to ensure staff and visitors have reliable access to clean, filtered drinking water without unnecessary waste.

To meet these goals, the project required an advanced hydration solution that was space-saving, energy-efficient, and environmentally responsible.

Solution: Advanced Hydration Technology

We played a crucial role in achieving Amohia Ake’s sustainability goals by providing instant filtered boiling, chilled, and sparkling drinking water systems. Through careful consultation and expert specification, we supplied:

• 4 Elkay Ezh20 in-wall bottle fillers — reducing single-use plastic bottle waste.
• 15 Billi Quadra dispensers — delivering energy-efficient boiling, chilled, and filtered water across the facility.

These systems incorporate our advanced water-cooled technology, as well as other features & benefits, which uses significantly less energy than traditional air-cooled systems. By leveraging heat exchange and energy reclaim technology, our systems contribute to energy efficiency targets.
